Following our recent work placements for our Prince’s Trust Team Programmes in both Swindon and Bath, one of our participants has seen great success in Gamekeeping!
Swindon course member, Jack Dellow, spent a week working at an estate on the Wiltshire/Gloucester border, experiencing what it takes to be a professional Keeper. “One of my first jobs was hanging up deer heads, which was a big eye opener into the role at first!” Said Jack. “Alongside that, I was doing jobs like feeding the drives for the birds and generally shadowing the head Keeper. I also got to see working dogs that had been trained to help with various tasks.”
Prior to coming on the Team Programme, Jack had recently become unemployed. “I’d always been interested in nature, but had never thought about a career in Gamekeeping before. Following a career’s guidance meeting during the course, we managed to source a placement so that I could have a go.”
“Gamekeeping is an industry where who you know is as important as what you know.” said the Gamekeeping firm’s Director. “our Gamekeeper was happy with Jack’s performance and would be quite happy to take Jack into his team if a vacancy were to arise. We wish him all the best for his future. We are all certain that he has what it takes to be successful.”
As a result of his placement, Jack is investigating the possibility of a college course in Gamekeeping once he completes the Team Programme.
